Things to Do
17th Annual Texas Film Awards Show Coming to Austin March 9th
An evening of festivities is planned, including inducting film industry icons into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. The event will feature red carpet arrivals of the evening’s honorees and presenters as well as special guests, followed soon afterward by a catered awards ceremony, music, and an auction event. As the primary fundraiser for the Austin Film Society (AFS), the Texas Film Awards helps AFS develop year-round programs with a mandate to enhance the cultural landscape of not only the city, but also the state of Texas.
Previous honorees at the event have included Forest Whitaker, Tommy Lee Jones (H-E-B Texas Legend award), Luke Wilson, and Guillermo del Toro (Honorary Texan). In a 2015 interview with Texas Highways, AFS Executive Director Rebecca Campbell noted that AFS is “about spreading film culture and nurturing the next generation of filmmakers.” She also added that “community” was what made the city of Austin so special for this type of creative art, and thereby perfect for events such as South by Southwest. Prior to the awards ceremony, honorees will share a few thoughts on their movies, independent films, and the appeal of filming on location in Texas with members of the press. Tickets are available for the Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards show at the link provided here on the Austin Film Society website.
