Over the past week, three bullet casings have been found on the University of Texas in Austin campus. Two were found in Parlin Hall and another was discovered in Batts Hall.

One of the bullet casings was strategically placed on top of a bulletin board and had a small note coming out of it that read “Triggered?” in red ink. On the bulletin board there was a neon piece of paper that said, “Peace Zone (leave your guns at home),” and someone had written in red ink, “In the land of the pigs, the butcher is king. Oink… oink… oink…” between the printed text.

The University of Texas Police Department is investigating why these casings were placed around campus. Their spokesperson, Cindy Posey, told the “Austin American-Statesman,” “UTPD takes all incidents concerning threatening messages very seriously, and it’s being investigated.”

The UT campus has experienced an uproar over a new law that recently went into effect that allows people to carry concealed handguns with a license throughout the campus. Many students and professors have protested the new law, and their protests have received backlash from students who are gun rights activists. The turmoil paired with the new bullet casing findings may make some students feel unsettled.
