Noting that they had planned to reopen what was the former Elite Cafe by the end of 2017, Joanna Gaines wrote that she had fond memories of Sunday brunches with family at the establishment. Like many of us growing up, Sunday brunch with family was a time to gather, catch up and share some laughs, and have some great food in the process.

After operating for close to a century, the iconic Elite Café in Waco closed in early 2016 as a result of increased competition with local diners vying for travelers along nearby Interstate 35. Waco businesses have experienced some interesting times over the past few decades, and their downtown core in particular underwent some bolstering and transformation.

Converting old silos near the downtown of the city into successful Magnolia Market, Chip and Joanna Gaines have been a part of that transformation. Their home decor and food marketplace is a destination for many across the state, and have helped Waco continue to grow and prosper in the positive direction it has hoped for.
