Country’s newest duo hailing from in and around Bedsore, Texas is coming to a Hill Country town near you. SiriusXM welcomed Asleep At The Wheel’s Ray Benson and honky-tonk icon Dale Watson to an hour of down-home humor and music from their debut duo album, Dale & Ray. The radio show titled “The Dale And Ray Radio Hour,” debuted this weekend on SiriusXM Outlaw Country, Channel 60. and SiriusXM’s Willie’s Roadhouse, Channel 59.
A collaboration long in the making, “Dale and Ray have both individually worked their way through the local Honky Tonks and Beer Joints, entertaining the crowds with their own Classic Country and Western styles. But, they’ve NEVER recorded a record together… UNTIL NOW!” shares their Facebook page.
Since the January 9 release, reviews have been phenomenal throughout the media. “Texas swing, raucous honky-tonk, heartfelt balladry – it’s all here,” says the Los Angeles Times. “Rolling Stone agrees, noting that Benson’s and Watson’s “larger-than-life personalities shine like neon throughout the album.” “Their co-writes are as country as it gets with sounds of Bakersfield, Western swing, and honky-tonk,” observes the San Antonio Express-News.”
It’s sure to be a legendary country record for the ages. They’ll debut original songs like “Bus Breakdown,” “I’m Crying, For Crying Time Again,” “Dale and Ray,” “Feelin’ Haggard,” to covers like “Write Your Own Songs” (Willie and Waylon) and “I Wish You Knew” (The Louvin Brothers), as shared on their FB page. Benson and Watson achieved renown over the past several decades as advocates for and exemplars of the best in Texas music. Working together, they achieve a unique level of integrity and authority – not to mention refreshingly unscripted entertainment as shared in their news release.
