The Houston Texans were playing the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Monday. As the game wrapped up and football fans filed out the stadium, tragedy struck.

Around 9:45 p.m., near Gate 5, a 36-year-old man named Jason Coy fell 60 feet down from a stair railing. He was rushed to the hospital, but he died due to the blunt force trauma.

KHOU reports, “It’s not known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the fall. Lab tests  from the autopsy that will determine those results take six to eight weeks to complete.” No matter the cause, it’s a terrible accident that’s very frightening to even consider having taken place.

The Denver Post relayed a statement that the Broncos made following the incident. They said, “The Denver Broncos are extremely saddened to learn that Jason Coy, the fan who fell over a stairwell railing at Monday night’s game, has passed away. Along with Stadium Management Company, we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.” Then, they added that they will be looking into the details of the incident to see if situations like this could be prevented in the future.
