Frank’s Restaurant in Schulenburg is a favorite of locals and visitors passing through the small Texas town. Sadly, after nearly 90 years, the restaurant is planning on closing in October 2017.

Chron.com quotes owner Cheryl Lauterstein, who made the tough decision to close Frank’s in order to spend more time with her mother who’s enduring Parkinson’s disease. “To this end, I am announcing the sale of property and dissolution of our family business which so fervently began eighty-eight years ago … My promise to you is to remain open through late September or October of 2017. Our doors must be finally and forever closed at the end of November,” she said.

People who love Frank’s are disheartened by the news. “Hearing they are closing brings tears like nothing recently has. This is not just a restaurant. It’s an institution. It’s a part of my childhood, family history and favorite memories,” Connie Foitik Lichtenberg wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page. Other people posted about their wonderful (and affordable) pies, tasty chicken fried steak and freshly baked bread.

The developer who bought the land, Stuart Halstedt, plans to tear the building down at the end of 2017, so if Frank’s is one of your favorite diners, make sure to visit soon.
