Lucy serves up fine food with a smile from her Lil’ Lucy’s Cafe in nearby Johnson City.  Soon the tables are covered with plates, piled high with fried chicken, delectable coleslaw, tamales, taters, and washed down with gallons of beer and wine.  The place is rocking with music and conversation.

The centerfold of the party is this ice creation.  Chris (William Chris Wines) pours a shot of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey down the ice chute toward a waiting winery worker.  This party is going to go on for a while!

Getting wine to you is complicated.

“Black Hands” is a winemaker’s term for what their hands look like after weeks of picking and crushing grapes.  Winemakers need fermenters, barrels, bottles, corks, labels, custom crush services, storage facilities, vineyard managers, and many of the businesses who provide those goods and services sponsor this party each fall.  The next time you visit a Texas Hill Country winery, you’ll know there is a party – that you aren’t invited to.
