In 1974, a tradition was born. Originally started as a fundraiser for Jaycee’s, 16 barbecuing masters gathered together to battle it out for the title of World Champion. Seems pretty presumptuous to think that out of all of the BBQ cook-offs in all of the world that these 16 teams would think one of them would be the best in the world, but it’s not. Here’s why: this is a goat cook-off. Yes, you read that right. Brady is the home of the World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off and now receives over 200 team entries each year. It is the largest and the longest running event of its kind in Texas, and it’s high time you plan a visit to try something a little different.

This Labor Day weekend, the 43rd Annual World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off will have teams from all corners of the earth coming to the Hill Country to determine who is the best at barbecuing goat and a few other various meats. The smell of Texas BBQ will fill the air as you peruse through various arts and crafts vendors, watch the kiddos partake in some games, and dance through the streets of Brady.

Start your morning off right with a pancake breakfast and by cheering on the participants of the 5K/10K Cadre Goat Gallop at 7:30 a.m. Or heck, take part in the race yourself! The horseshoe and washer tournament will commence at 8 a.m., followed by the arts and crafts fair, children’s activities, and food court, which will be open from 9-5 p.m. For lunch, get a hearty, mouthwatering BBQ Goat Meal by Fat Boys BBQ (while supplies last). Afterward, hang around for the mystery meat and goat cook-off meat judging. The awards presentation begins at 5 p.m. and a street dance featuring artists Seth James, Jessica Murray, and William Clark Green starts at 8 p.m. This is your chance to dance the night away to some fabulous music under the Texas Hill Country stars.
