When planning a family trip in Texas, there are tons of ideas and locations that can suit your needs and provide fun for the whole family. Here are three great Lone Star State locales with at least three family fun ideas each which you can steal to ensure your sun time equals fun time!

1. Grapevine

Grapevine is a city in and of itself, as opposed to an extension of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and, as such, it features some of its own exclusive attractions. The Parr Park Sprayground is one of them, housing 31 acres of dry as well as water-based play and picnic areas. The city is also home to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center, which has a number of play areas and themed rides. And, for those families that like to relax, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad is a unique adventure which allows you to ride a 1920s train traveling from Grapevine to Fort Worth!

2. Austin

Austin is an excellent source for Texas-based music, and all family members, younger through older, can experience some wonderful live music events here. If the weather permits, there are also a number of great local opportunities for swimming, such as the Barton Springs Pool, the Deep Eddy Pool, or along the Greenbelt. Zilker Park is also a must-see for families, featuring a kid’s train that runs its exterior. And, for those of discerning food tastes, there are always a variety of food trucks throughout Austin trying to please practically every palate. There are also some great festivals held here each year, including the Kite Festival and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

3. Amarillo

A visit to the historic Route 66 is always a must when you’re headed to Amarillo in North Texas. Cadillac Ranch is also an excellent chance for a family to see an art installation which is also interactive, allowing visitors the opportunity to put on their own work of art with some fresh spray paint. Then, visit Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Also known as the “Grand Canyon of Texas,” there are huge, 60-foot-high cliffs and beautiful, natural ravines your family can explore either by car, on foot, by bike, or on horseback!
