Last year, 28-year-old Texan Brittany Graves took a few colorful markers to a poster board and created a game that even got her husband to start watching sappy movies by her side. Graves made up a truly inspired Hallmark movie drinking game that has players take a sip when there’s a “near-miss kiss, ” a “magic deal with Santa or an angel,” and “anytime you hear jingle bells.” The list (seen on Facebook) includes all of the typical Hallmark Christmas movie clichés, and concludes with players finishing their drink when “the cynic is filled with the Christmas spirit” or “it snows on Christmas!”

Even though Graves made the game up a year ago, she’s just now receiving the recognition she deserves with news stories from MySA.com and Chron.com. She told Chron.com, “Watching all of them all the time, it’s the same plot line,” but she also sees the fun in the films. Part of the charm of Hallmark holiday films is that they’re easily predictable and sickeningly sweet. Viewers know they won’t be faced with violence, politics, or any ending that’s less than heartwarming, but why not liven it up with some eggnog? And of course, if you aren’t one for alcohol, you can always substitute a bite of Christmas cookies or sips of warm apple cider.
