Teacher Brittni Darras sat down with the mother of her student and learned the heartbreaking reason why the girl was missing school lately.

During parent/teacher conferences at Ms. Darras’ Colorado Springs school, the mother of a female student sat down with Ms. Darras to explain why her daughter had been absent from school for an extended period of time. The reason? Her daughter had tried to commit suicide, and was in the act, when police responded to a suicide tip and broke into the house.

Goodbye letters penned, this young girl was very ready to end her struggle. However, she was rehabilitating, and with the help of Ms. Darras and her mother, she was coming out of the tunnel. However, this inspired Ms. Darras to write letters of appreciation to each one of her students, personalizing over 100 letters to detail how much she loved each one of her ‘kids’.

Ms. Darras realized that sometimes, people, no matter age, race, or gender, need to hear the positive things about them. The student in the hospital read Ms. Darras’ letter and said, “How could somebody say such nice things about me?”

It turns out that we probably don’t tell the people we value how much we truly care about them. Call your family and your friends, you never know how much they may need to hear your kind words.
