The Houston Astros recently clinched the American League West Division Title for the first time in 16 years with their 7-1 win against the Seattle Mariners. The Astros advanced to the postseason with an interesting year rattled by injuries, but not stopping the team from moving full steam ahead in their goal to get to this year’s World Series.

Back in 2005, the team garnered a spot in the World Series only to fall short to the Chicago Whitesox in a sweep of four games in a best-of-seven game series. To say fans and players alike are excited to be in this position again to possibly advance to this year’s world series is an understatement.

“The division title is the first for the Astros since 2001, when they were in the NL Central. The club moved to the AL West for the 2013 season, which evened up the two leagues at 15 teams apiece. The Astros have gone to the postseason three times since 2001, all as a wild-card team,” shared cbssports.com

In an article by lastwordonbaseball.com, they had this to share, “This season has been an interesting ride for the Astros. Hopefully, it will continue far into October if their players can stay healthy. Injuries have plagued this team all season long. It’s time to right the ship and win the World Series. The city of Houston needs the Astros to bring home a title especially after the devastation that happened due to Hurricane Harvey in early September.”

With veteran starting pitcher Justin Verlander, and Astro’s superstars at bat such as George Springer, Jose Altuve, and Carlos Correa, along with a familiar face at the 2005 World Series appearance, homerun hitter Carlos Beltran, the team is sure to be a contending force to be reckoned with in this year’s postseason run to the 2017 World Series.

“The recent play of the Astros in 2017 has been very phenomenal. Houston just locked up their first AL West Division title this past Sunday. The team has achieved what they thought was impossible by winning the division. The Astros have proven to be one of the top teams in the AL this season, and in all of baseball,” shared lastwordonbaseball.com.
