The Medical AirCare helicopter wasn’t carrying patients when it crashed on the lawn near the helipad of the hospital.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, and though there were three crew members on board, no one was injured in the mishap. KHOU is reporting that the Houston helicopter crashed shortly after lift off outside of Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The tail rotor was snapped almost fully off. The chopper was in the area after dropping off a patient from Seguin, Texas. Though no one fully knows what went wrong, the National Safety and Transportation Board and the FAA will investigate the incident to determine fault, be it mechanical or pilot.

Other medical flights throughout the day will be diverted to other Houston area hospitals in the Memorial Hermann name until the helipad is officially reopened.

The video below was taken by a bystander and shows the scene shortly after the crash occurred. As you can, the helicopter is only a few feet away from the helipad itself, which could point to poor lift off conditions.

Thankfully, no injuries occurred and no passengers in need of serious and immediate medical attention were on board at the time of the crash.
