Indian Lodge, the iconic pueblo-style hotel located in the Davis Mountains State Park, in Fort Davis is in the middle of a major renovation. The Lodge closed for business in early September of 2017 and hopes to be open again by June of 2018 – just in time for summer visitors.

Opened to Public in 1939

The lodge is designed in the style of a multilevel pueblo village. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the first section of the lodge in the 1930s, and the lodge was opened to the public in 1939.  Today the lodge showcases the original interiors and furnishings of its 1930’s debut. The structure utilizes hand-hewn pine beams and adobe blocks that were crafted onsite and has the original longleaf pine floors, casement windows, and log ceilings. The hand-carved cedar furniture throughout the Lodge was constructed by the CCC at Bastrop State Parkwhich is another project completed by the Corps. The structure gives a nod to both the Native Americans who once inhabited the area and the strong Spanish influence of the Southwest.

Last Major Update Was in 1967

In 1967 more rooms and amenities were added to Indian Lodge. The original portion of Indian Lodge has 18-inch adobe walls. The newest renovations to Indian Lodge include new heating, ventilation and air conditioning, roof repair and exterior plaster coating, which will give the Lodge the facelift that this important, historical structure deserves.

“These updates will be beneficial to the preservation of Indian Lodge so that it can be enjoyed and experienced by families for years to come,”  Indian Lodge site superintendent Karen Sulewski told Texas Parks and Wildlife.

During the renovation period, the gift shop and the on-site restaurant will remain open for visitors to the park.
