“LOWE’S is giving Free $50 coupons for EVERYONE! to celebrate Mother’s Day!” CNN quotes a new promotion floating around Facebook. It appears to be a legitimate coupon complete with company logo, barcode and fine print. Unfortunately, officials say that this coupon is a scam.

ABC 13 points out that the same scam made the rounds in 2015, and it must have been successful enough that scammers are giving it another run. The goal of the counterfeit post is to have people click on the image, which will take then to a fake Lowe’s website. The site opens up a survey to “earn” the coupon that, in reality, aims to steal the savings-seeker’s private information.

Lowe’s said in a statement, “Please be careful when responding to any pop-up ad either online or via social media; as, more often than not, the offer of gift cards or other prizes to customer’s in the guise of a specific company are set up to get your personal information for nefarious purposes.”

It’s best to ignore the post if it comes up on your feed, or point out to the person who shares it that it’s a fake offer. The only good thing the fake coupon is good for is reminding everyone that Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. Go ahead and mark it down on Sunday, May 14th in your calendar now!
