Great Big Story does an amazing job at bringing unconventional lifestyles to light. In this video, they introduce us to Bruce Campbell, a man who lives inside a retired jetliner. Though some people may assume the set-up and feel of the interior would be tiny-home-like, the inside of the Boeing 727 appears unlike any home you’ve seen before.

On his website, AirplaneHome.com, Campbell states that he bought the jetliner in 1999 for $100K, and he spent $120K to improve the living and locational aspects of the structure. The living area measures 1,066 square feet. To Campbell, it’s the perfect amount of space, and he sees it as a superior structure to live in rather than wood which can catch fire, be eaten by termites and easily destroyed.

Campbell hopes more people will consider living inside a jetliner. “To me it’s wholly irrational to destroy the finest home sized structures available on this planet and then turn around and build homes out of materials which are fundamentally little more than assemblies of sticks rendered with ancient and inferior design and fabrication methods. In my view it ranks as among the most overt and egregious of mankind’s blind spots,” he says.
