In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, many celebrities showed up for Houston – either in-person or via social media and are still working hard to raise funds and hand out donations to those impacted by the storm. However, no celebrity has worked as tirelessly for the homeless and displaced pets of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas Gulf Coast than country music singer and native Texan, Miranda Lambert and her organization MuttNation.

Lambert got her big break in 2003 when she auditioned for the talent competition Nashville Star, where she earned a third-place finish. Although she didn’t win the coveted title of “Nashville Star,” she did catch the eye of a Sony Record executive, Tracy Gershon, who later convinced the label to sign her. Lambert now has multiple Grammy and CMA awards to her name as well as being named the ACA Female Vocalist of the Year for the eighth consecutive year (surpassing Reba McEntire as the most awarded in this category).

Always an Animal Lover

But Lambert’s heart has always belonged to animals. While volunteering at local shelters, she adopted her first pup Delilah as a companion when she started touring. To help shine the spotlight on rescue animals and shelters, Miranda and her mom, Bev Lambert, founded MuttNation Foundation in 2009 to ensure that as many dogs as possible would have a safe and happy place to call home.

So, it was no surprise that, when Hurricane Harvey began assaulting the Gulf Coast, Lambert jumped into action. Lambert and MuttNation rescued dozens of dogs and cats from Houston area shelters, including the Houston Humane Shelter and the Baytown City Shelter and sent them to other states (often times via private jet) to make room for more animals displaced by the storm.

In addition to the on-the-ground efforts in Texas by Lambert and MuttNation, the organization is also raising money and collecting donations at Lambert’s concerts and online, via the MuttNation website. MuttNation has other, ongoing needs that they’re working on, such as adoption drives, pet transport, and Mutts Across America.
