If you or your child loves LEGO® blocks, you’ll be captivated by the intricate creations which are developed for display by New York artist Sean Kenney, whose work will be on display at the Houston Zoo as part of a Nature Connects: Art with LEGO® Bricks exhibit.

Running from May 18 to September 4, the exhibit is an award-winning, record-breaking display which now tours North America and at one time was seen at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. Created with more than two million LEGO® pieces, the exhibition features over 100 sculptures which are all built with LEGO® blocks.

Kenney believes that just as LEGO® blocks connect, all things in nature do as well, in an intricate balance for everything from insects to plants to animals. The exhibit works to display the differing relationships between a number of species of animals and plants, as well as their familial ties. One of the larger such sculptures he’s created in the past includes a mother bison, which was made using over 45,000 blocks.

On opening day of the exhibit in Houston, the Zoo, like any other day, will be a treat to explore, and with the Nature Connects exhibit, it will be enhanced by the added bonus of Kenney’s LEGO® sculptures. His previous works of art for the San Antonio project included elaborate roses, goldfinches, and a dragonfly, and fans of his work are looking forward to the creations yet to be seen in Houston. Kenney feels that the Nature Connects exhibit is first and foremost an educational platform. The exhibit is anticipated to draw fans of both the Houston Zoo as well as LEGO®, inspiring creation, wonder, and the hope of making connections with something amazing.
