Is our world, full of “screen time” and over-the-top excess around every corner, getting you down? Are you craving the “good ole days,” when things were simple and sweet? If so, then plan to attend the Old Time 4th of July Patriotic Parade and Program in downtown New Braunfels, on Tuesday, July 4th.

Sponsored by The Sophienburg Museum and Archives, this July 4th parade looks like a Norman Rockwell painting, complete with lots of flag waving and red, white, and blue. Everyone is invited to participate in the parade (but participants must have a patriotic theme). You’ll see children in decorated wagons and veterans in their military finest at this event. Enjoy the quaint atmosphere of downtown New Braunfels and see its residents, decked out in their patriotic finest, enjoying a morning of comradery and allegiance.

The parade kicks off at 9:15 a.m. near downtown New Braunfels with a flyover by the Commemorative Air Force. What follows can only be described as good, old-fashioned patriotic fun. The parade will feature a restored Calliope and Wurlitzer carousel organ, decorated golf carts, and Boy Scout troops galore. A concert and sing-along by The New Braunfels Community Band at the Main Plaza bandstand will round out the festivities with patriotic tunes sure to put a spring in your step (and maybe a tear in your eye). Donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of the Commemorative Air Force flyover and several of the nearby cafes and coffee shops will be open to quench the thirst and appetite for the parade goers.

If your family is looking for a big, showy, loud and flashy parade, plan to head directly to Seguin for that.  But if a quiet, family-friendly parade is more your speed, head to downtown New Braunfels on July 4th for a parade that’s sure to delight everyone in your family.
