Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks to Make You go Brrrrr

With winter almost upon us, it’s a great time to think about some fun outdoor activities for the whole family and what better way to welcome Christmas time than with some outdoor ice skating fun! New York may have Rockefeller Center and the outdoor rink at Central Park but Texas has some wintry wonderlands of its own to create beautiful memories on ice.

Here are a few outdoor skating rinks around our great state of Texas to try out this winter season.

1. Austin – Ice Rink at the Whole Foods Plaza Rooftop

Thought Whole Foods was just a food market? Well, guess again. If you are in Austin, make sure to go to the Rooftop at 525 N. Lamar Blvd on Friday nights and all day and evening Saturday and Sunday for some ice skating fun under the stars going on now through January 7, 2017.

2. Fredericksburg – Eisbahn Outdoor Skating Rink

In its 11th year, the beautiful town of Fredericksburg once again becomes a winter wonderland right here in the Hill Country offering outdoor ice skating. Funds raised will go towards the Heritage School and Cystic Fibrosis, according to its website. So lace up those skates and join in on the fun now until January 1, 2017, at the 100 block of W. Main.

3. Frisco – Skate the Square

According to its website, “Christmas in the Square draws over 675,000 visitors annually. Families, friends and holiday guests from all over come and enjoy the spectacular show. Lights! Music! Snow!”

Come out and enjoy the magic of Christmas now until January 1, 2017. The largest choreographed holiday lights and music show in North Texas in its 12th year shares its site. 8874 Coleman Blvd.

4. Houston – The ICE at Discovery Green

In the heart of downtown Houston lies one of the most enchanting and adorable little ice skating rinks around. Grab the family, grab a friend and head on out from now until February.

According to its website, “The ICE at Discovery Green powered by Green Mountain Energy uses recycled water from Kinder Lake to create a 7,716 square-foot ice skating surface, making it the largest outdoor skating rink in the Southwest.”

Located at 1500 McKinney, be sure not to miss this treasure of a rink complete with hot cocoa to purchase and top 40 tunes and Christmas music playing in the background.

5. Fort Worth – Panther Island Ice

A favorite holiday tradition for the city of Fort Worth. Open now through January 16, 2017, Panther Island Ice is found within the Coyote Drive-In complex, located at 223 NE 4th Street. They even have a special night on December 15th for celebrating Latino arts and culture called “Navidad on Ice” they share on their website. Don’t miss Fort Worth’s only outdoor rink if you’re in the area!

Just some of the most entertaining and fun-filled outdoor skating rinks to bring out the kid in you again.
