UPDATE: Due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Harvey, the Wine & Wags event has been rescheduled for September 17, 2017.

Join the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter (CLASS) and Dry Comal Creek Vineyard and Winery on Sunday, August 27 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. for their “Wine & Wag” event at the winery, located between New Braunfels and Spring Branch. This fundraising event brings together two things that people love: wine and animals.

Wine, Live Music, Good Company, and DOGS!

Enjoy wine and sangria, live music, good company, and a shady pavilion – all the while helping to raise needed funds for Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society. Live music will be provided by the All Mixed Up Variety Band. There will also be t-shirts, gift items and dog treats for sale at the event. Well-mannered dogs on leash are always welcome. Tickets to this fun event are $25, which includes two glasses of wine.

CLASS: Doing Great Things in Canyon Lake

The Canyon Lake Animal Shelter is transforming the reputation of shelters in the Canyon Lake area. When the shelter changed hands in 2013, the new board members had quite a mess (literally and figuratively) to clean up. Years of mismanagement left the shelter in a deplorable condition. Volunteers stepped in, the community reached out and the shelter has indeed turned itself around.

Canyon Lake Animal Shelter is a no-kill facility, meaning that all adoptable animals will live at the shelter or in foster homes until they’re adopted. Recently, Canyon Lake has taken in and rehabilitated several (seemingly) “lost-cause” cases of demodex in dogs. Demodex (or demodectic mange) is a type of mange that, while usually treatable, requires a lot of time to heal and, in most traditional shelters, puts an animal on the fast-track to euthanization. CLASS prides itself on its dedication to these animals who wouldn’t survive in a traditional shelter and, not only healing them, but finding them wonderful homes, offering them a second chance at the life that every dog deserves.

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than under the vintage oaks that line the Dry Comal Creek winery’s property, listening to cool tunes, sipping some frozen sangria, and petting some dogs, all the while, helping an animal shelter (who is constantly fighting an uphill battle) raise much-needed funds to continue doing good work in the community? Purchase tickets here or go to the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter’s Facebook page for more information on the shelter and the Wine & Wag event.
