‘No Bad Days’ Golf Tourney and Music Fest to be held in Spicewood
You didn’t have to know James Randall (Poodie) Locke long to know that he loved two things: golf and music. And on October 1 near Spicewood, the Third Annual ‘No Bad Days’ Golf Tournament and Music Festival will be held in his honor.

As a roadie and stage manager for Willie Nelson for 34 years, you can bet Poodie lived a life full of hard work and good times. In fact, he loved the life he lived so much that the words “no bad days” became a favorite phrase of his. And when he wasn’t on the road shepherding Willie onto stages across the world, Poodie liked to kick back and relax on a golf course.
After his years working with Willie, Poodie opened Poodies Hilltop Roadhouse in Spicewood where he could manage a more permanent stage in the Texas Hill Country rather than the travelling roadshows he’d taken care of so long. And many a Texas singer (and even those outside the Lone Star State) found a home at Poodies.
Sadly, Poodie passed away unexpectedly in 2009, but those who loved him refuse to let him be forgotten. So they created Poodie’s Party, a non-profit, to give back to the community that Poodie so loved.

Plenty of other activities awaits those who’d rather sway to some live tunes than swing a club. Music starts at 12 p.m. with seven artists scheduled to perform. The party atmosphere will be alive and rollicking with food vendors, arts ‘n crafts, and raffles including a Willie Nelson autographed guitar. It’s gonna be beautiful this weekend folks. Get outside on Saturday and enjoy Poodie’s Party! Willie Nelson’s Cut-n-Putt at Pedernales Golf Club, 807 Paisley Drive, Briarcliff. Admission for music fest: $20 adults, free for children 13 and under. BYOB and a chair. Proceeds benefit Helping Hands of Spicewood and local first responder auxiliaries.
