Scientists were surprised to find an odd-looking catfish called the Mexican Blindcat living about 150 miles outside of San Antonio in the Amistad National Recreation Area. Previously, these endangered fish have only been seen swimming in Mexico.

Their small size (only three inches long), coloring (translucent light-pink), and blindness make these catfish unique. Their pinkish hue is due to being able to see their blood from beneath their skin.

Visitors to the San Antonio Zoo will soon be able to get an upclose look at the creatures, but first, the fish will reside in a behind-the-scences facility for acclimation. All three blind catfish species known to live in the United States reside in Texas. Looks like the great state of Texas attracts more than just interesting people.
