The San Antonio Missions owner and Mayor convened at a City Council meeting recently to announce that the city would be getting its own Triple-A baseball team in 2019.

On Thursday, April 7, per the San Antonio Express-News, “San Antonio Missions owner David Elmore and Mayor Ivy Taylor announced at a City Council meeting” that the city will finally be getting its own Triple-A baseball team in 2019.

Elmore’s team is currently located in Colorado Springs and he is planning the move to San Antonio, Texas, on one condition: that a new downtown baseball stadium be built.

The Double-A team, the Missions, will play at Wolff Stadium through 2018, but from there, will be moved though the location is not yet known. There is speculation that the team will move to Amarillo because Elmore has not yet named another potential city.

The new stadium will require about $75 million in funding and will go to a public vote for approval. However, because we Texans love baseball, there is little doubt that the project will meet any major delays or roadblocks in the process.

All we will have to do in the meantime is enjoy the Missions and root for our major league teams from afar here in the Hill Country.
