Traditionally used as an exterior siding on barns, other outbuildings, and homes, shiplap is becoming the “it” trend in interior decorating. It’s taking on a life of its own in terms of western décor. As with most finishes, the quality of craftsmanship is key in the final product or outcome, but ideally, shiplap makes for a great do-it-yourself project if you have the time, the tools, and a flair for design. And, of course, barn board is something there’s no shortage of here in Texas! Here are some dreamy home projects that prove shiplap is to homes what coconut oil is to the body.

1. A Wood Feature Wall

The variety of colors that can be used in a shiplap project such as this are broad and enticing – making a feature wall in your home a welcomed component. This is easily managed with the right tools and know-how (and maybe a little advice from your local contractor supply store.)

2. Custom Headboard

A custom-made headboard for your master bedroom or each of the kids’ rooms is a dreamy shiplap project that you can design, create, and finish in any fashion you choose. It’s a look that says “love lives here,” and one that your family will truly appreciate.

3. Interior Barn Doors

A look that runs the gamut from classy to versatile, this fully functional interior barn door makes a great divider between kitchen and living room in this instance, but can be applied in so many other rooms or sizes. Consider barn-door-style cabinet doors or bedroom access. The possibilities for shiplap projects are practically endless!
