Foothills Academy College Prep has two female players on their boys’ soccer team, sisters Alyssa and Colette Hocking. They were supposed to go up against Faith Christian’s team in Scottsdale over the weekend, but Faith Christian forfeited the game before it even began, citing the two girls as the cause. The forfeited soccer game brought about a national debate and attention when the story was picked up by major news outlets like USA Today.

KVUE quoted Faith Christian’s administrator as saying, “We have chosen to not compete in games against schools that include girls on their boys’ varsity teams. We respect the decision of schools that choose to include women on their teams and only ask for the same in return.”

Foothills Academy responded, “We all know that boys and girls are different, but they can both play soccer…My respect goes to our team. Stay strong Blackhawks!”

The girls have been met with opposition before from another team, and that time they were benched for the game. While that was an option this time as well, the boys on the Foothills Academy team stated they wouldn’t play without the sisters as they’re an integral and worthy part of their team.
