A year ago, robot toy makers Sphero released an impressively advanced BB-8 toy. In a video from TechCrunch that shows off the toy’s ability to be controlled via a tablet and recognize its owner’s voice, Sphero’s Rob Maigret said, “Sphero’s goal, ultimately, is to put a robot in every home. It’s a really ambitious goal, but we’re really excited to do it.”

Now, with the introduction of their newest and most sophisticated toy yet, Sphero will edge closer to their goal. Kids and adults won’t be able to resist Lightning McQueen, star of the Pixar “Cars” franchise who’s currently available in small, robot form.

Tech Radar says, “McQueen isn’t just a remote controlled car (though he’s a very good one at that), but an animated, speaking, expressive one as well.” The YouTube video uploaded by Sphero shows how perfectly animated the toy car appears.

Lightning McQueen uses six motors to recreate his cinematic likeness. Driven via an app, the car can race around, do donuts, talk, and even react to the “Cars” movies! It’s recommended that the fancy toy stays indoors, but after parents see the price tag of $300, they’ll have no problem letting Lightning McQueen stay safe and sound in the house.
