The Sugar Land Police Department posted to Facebook about a door hanger scam showing up on residents’ front doors. The hanger is a piece of manila paper that says it’s “important” and those who receive it should call the Bank of America with the phone number provided.

“The Law Enforcement Liaison Team from Bank of America confirmed that these flyers are not endorsed by Bank of America,” the Sugar Land Police write. If someone does fall for the scam and call the number, the scammers will ask for personal information while pretending that they’re the bank.

Conversely, the comments section on the Sugar Land PD’s post included some people saying that the hangers are legitimately from third-party companies that work for the bank. The police maintain that it is, in fact, a scam.

Click2Houston says that if you see someone placing these fake notices on people’s doorknobs, call the police immediately at (281) 275-2020.
