Who knew a semi-truck could look simultaneously cool, futuristic, and intimidating? KHOU writes that last Thursday, Tesla, Inc. revealed their design for an electric semitractor-trailer that can hold 80,000 pounds while traveling 500 miles without a recharge. Though the final price of the truck wasn’t revealed, Elon Musk said that Tesla is taking $5,000 deposits now for the release of the truck in 2019.

The trucks will have an autopilot system, and Musk said they’ll even be able to follow one another as a convoy. Tesla aims to set up solar-power mega charging stations, so the trucks can be boosted back up in only 30 minutes to drive another 400 miles.

The Verge writes that before the big reveal, journalists were allowed to tour two of the trucks (the regular model and the aerodynamic model). “Compared to the internal combustion engine models, the Tesla Semi has smoothed-off sides covering its electric parts, including the grille up front. Yes, there’s a ‘frunk’ up there, with some storage and access points for some service repairs. The door handles are flush-mounted, too, because they come off a Model 3,” they write.
