Even though the law was set to go into effect on December 1st, Texas Judge Amos Mazant III blocked the new rule that would bring the salary cap to $47,476 for workers receiving overtime compensation.

According to WMBF, 21 states have expressed distaste toward the law, saying that it would hurt businesses and cause them to cut worker’s hours. On the other hand, many workers were desperately hoping for a raise and payment for their extra work hours during the holidays.

As PBS reported, “There were two headlines that really spoke to how people are receiving this information. One was from an Idaho paper that said, ‘You’re not going to get that pay raise you expected,’ and one of the business news — cable news websites that said, ‘Small businesses receive a reprieve.’”

PBS added that since December 1st comes in the middle of a workweek, many Texan employers were probably already prepared for the change. They’ll need to decide if they want to keep their plans updated or roll back on the changes. Four million workers are expected to feel the impact.
