What Pee-wee Herman Thinks About Texas

When Pee-wee Herman was asked about his trip to Texas in the 1980s, he had a few cheeky things to say about it.

Part of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, as any Paul Reubens fan would know, was shot at the Alamo. However, he finally cleared up national confusion: no, there is no basement in the Alamo.

He went on to comment on how kind the people of Texas were when he was shooting his film here. “I mean, we were like nobody. Pee-wee Herman wasn’t know, and they treated us like we were special,” Reubens told the Texas Standard.

The Texas Film Commission is the ‘they’ Reubens spoke about, and they escorted Tim Burton, Reubens, and the film crew around the city of San Antonio, even taking them to a Tex-Mex restaurant.

How long was Pee-wee Herman running loose in Texas? Well, not long at all. He told the Texas Standard, “I put on my suit, I ran into the Alamo, ran out of the Alamo and we got on a plane and flew away.”

We sure hope he saw more of Texas when he was in town for SXSW this past week. Someone had to have fed him BBQ since the 1980s, right?
