How does the rest of the world know that you’re a true Texan lady? Well, we have come up with a list of reasons that will define a Texas lady to the “T” – see how many of these are true for you!

1. You, your mom, and grandma are HUGE George Strait fans.

Your grandmother had a poster of George Strait on her door at the nursing home. Truth. When my 93 year old grandmother was admitted to the nursing home, one thing we took to decorate her room was a poster of George Strait. She adored the singer and her favorite song was “All My Ex’s Live in Texas.”

2. You’ve eaten fried anything, including “Mountain Oysters”.

You have eaten or tasted at least one of the following: alligator, rattlesnake, rice balls, funnel cake, calf fries (mountain oysters), or deep-fried Snickers. Yay, good old fashioned Texas Fair food!

3. A pickup truck is your vehicle of choice.

Your 70 year old mother drives a Ford F150. Yep. We’ve had a few discussions about her speed, but never about downsizing her vehicle.

4. You’ve taken selfies in front of the Alamo.

You’ve posed more than once in front of the Alamo, as have your children. Done.

5. You celebrate Texas Independence Day.

Texas Independence Day is celebrated with as much or more reverence than the Fourth of July. My family traveled to Washington-on-the-Brazos one year so as to establish that reverence in the boys at a young age. Never too early.

6. You wear shorts in the winter.

Your childhood photos have you holding a pumpkin or sitting in front of the Christmas tree wearing winter clothes in some and shorts and a t-shirt in others. My personal favorite is a photo of my niece, a preschooler at the time, wearing a sundress, sandals and sporting hot pink sunglasses while choosing her pumpkin. Ahh, Texas weather.
