3 Things You Cannot Miss If You Ever Visit Lubbock, Texas

While there are plenty of wonderful things to see and do in the Hill Country, sometimes it is nice to take a trip to explore other portions of our great state. Now, it has been said that happiness is, “Lubbock Texas in [your] rearview mirror” however if you take the time to visit the Hub City of the plains you will find it has much to offer. Below are five things to do if you ever find yourself in Lubbock!

1. The National Ranching Heritage Center

Located just a short distance from the main campus of Texas Tech University, the 27 acre National Ranching Heritage Center gives visitors a chance to see what life was like for settlers on the Great Plains. A significant portion of the center is outdoors and features a variety of historical structures; some of which are almost 200 years old.

Additionally, the center is home to a seven gallery, 44,000 square foot museum. This part of the facility hosts a number of historical and modern art pieces, along with several artifacts. These things all come together to showcase what life in the West was like in days gone by as well as exhibiting the innovations accepted into ranch life in recent years.

Entrance into the NRHC is free, however, donations are accepted. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m daily. If you would like to learn more about the center, follow this link to their website.

2. The Buddy Holly Center

In the late 1950s, Lubbock native Buddy Holly pioneered his way into the rock n’ roll genre. Though his life, and promising career, was cut short in a tragic plane crash in 1959, Holly’s legacy still lives on through the center named in his honor in the Hub City.

According to the city of Lubbock’s website, the Buddy Holly Center is devoted to preserving the legacy of Holly while also, “educating and entertaining the public.”

The center is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, the center can be reached at (806) 775-3560.

3. Attend a Texas Tech Football Game

Whether you are a fan of the Red Raiders or not, you just cannot miss a home football game at the Jones if you are in Lubbock during football season. There’s nothing like hearing the “RAIDER! POWER!” chant tossed back and forth across the field or watching the Going Band strut their stuff at half-time. It is a definite can’t miss experience!

If you have a hankering for a change of scenery, try a visit to Lubbock. There is something for everyone from two to  92 And who knows? Happiness might be found just inside the city limits.
