History buffs may be drawn to Brownwood’s role in railroad and military history. Railroad enthusiasts can stop by the Lehnis Railroad Museum to examine the railroad memorabilia and equipment, photos and stories of Brownwood’s early railroads. See the restored Prairie style architecture of the Santa Fe Railroad Passenger Station, one of the last few large depots remaining in the state.

Camp Bowie, one of the largest military training centers in Texas was built in Brownwood during World War II. Today, Camp Bowie serves as a United States National Guard training center. Visit Camp Bowie Memorial Park to honor the role the United States military played in the history and development of Brownwood. Brownwood pleases sports and entertainment spectators alike. Sports fans can catch plenty of action from athletic events at both Howard Payne University and Brownwood High School. Stopover at the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions Museum for a display of championship spirit and accomplishment from championship award-winning high school football coach Gordon Wood.

Attend a concert or a play at the Brownwood Lyric Theater or the Brownwood High School Fine Arts Department. Check in to the Brownwood Art Association to see an exhibit or take a class. Don’t miss the annual Feels Like Home Celebration to observe Brownwood’s hometown pride firsthand.
