Regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian Era, Charles Dickens has delighted readers worldwide with stories involving his famous fictional characters. In his widely popular novella, A Christmas Carol, which was published in 1843, he tells the story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation into a gentler, kindlier man – the true meaning of Christmas spirit.

The Texas Hill Country invites you to step back in time, to the days of old, put on your top-hat and overcoat, and experience the magic of Christmas. Boerne will host its 16th annual premier community event, Dickens on Main, during the weekend following Thanksgiving – Nov. 27 & 28, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. both nights. The grand ole event will take place along the Hill Country Mile in historic downtown, and the time-travel experience will be a Christmas wish come true for the whole family.

“Join us on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving for the Hill Country’s most popular holiday soiree—Dickens on Main in Boerne,” said Mayor Mike Schultz. “This free event is loaded with family friendly activities and is the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit. Plus you can get those last minute gifts, and Santa will be in town, too!”

That’s right – it’s FREE! Your entire family will experience the merriment and joy of the holiday season, including live festive music, Dickens-era theatrical performances, live ice sculpting shows, horse-drawn carriage rides, snow on Main Street, and much more. Bring the kiddos to participate in trackless train rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, a 60-foot snow slide, and of course, pictures and letters with Santa himself. Your family will look forward to seeing the most anticipated Christmas guest, Santa Claus, which provides a great opportunity for children to share their Christmas wishes (and get last-minute holiday card photos!).

“Our favorite part of Dickens on Main is enjoying the Christmas spirit through the eyes of the children. Snow machines, Christmas lights, Christmas carols. While the children are enjoying their excitement, the parents are able to find out how nice it is not to have to deal with traffic jams, crowded shopping malls, and stressed out sales clerks. Come to Boerne to rediscover the excitement of Christmas and enjoy the great selection of the shops on Main,” said Jac and Bill Spruce, Owners of Jac’s.

New to Dickens on Main this year are two free headliner concerts! Austin-based band Groove Knight will bring the house down to wrap up Dickens on Main’s Friday night. An award-winning high energy dance band, Groove Knight is sure to please the whole family as they share the power of generations of great dance music from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and today. Then, for the weekend finale, local Texan and celebrated country artist Thomas Michael Riley will perform a show to remember. Riley has been honored as the Hill Country Entertainer of the Year not once, but twice, and will bring Boerne a rockin’-around-the-Christmas-tree good time! Mark your calendar for both concerts at the North Pole Plaza from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. and come dance the night away.
