Disney to Shut Down One of Their Iconic Rides to Make Way For New Attraction
After almost 30 years of taking riders through scenes from iconic movies, the “Great Movie Ride” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando will close on August 13th. According to WFAA, the ride’s closure will spark a makeover transforming it into a brand new attraction featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse. It will actually become the first ride at a Disney theme park to have Mickey as the star!
Inside the Magic uploaded a video of the announcement that took place during the D23 Expo this year. The new ride will be called “Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway” and will feature a new, original theme song (like “It’s a Small World” or “Pirates of the Caribbean” has) that is sure to get stuck in everyone’s head. Riders will see Mickey and Minnie in their old school animation style while zipping around on a train with Goofy as their conductor. Needless to say, things will go haywire, but Mickey and Minnie will save the day. No 3-D glasses will be needed, but new technology will be used to make the animation come to life.
Many fans are sad to see the Great Movie Ride go. In the video below, you can watch a ride-through of the iconic (and lengthy) attraction.
