Down a single-lane road, around a corner, and there it is – Legendary Downtown Luckenbach in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. A general store/ramshackle tavern, a blacksmith shop, and an old-timey dance hall hamlet-turned-country music mecca will host the 3rd Annual Hill Country Food Truck Festival this year. The food utopia festival will take place under the shade of 500-year-old Live Oak trees at the Luckenbach General Store.

On June 25, 2016, over a dozen food trucks from Austin, San Antonio, Fredericksburg, and other Texas Hill Country towns will offer up some of the finest food truck cuisine from noon to 9:30 p.m. or until sold out. These mobile snack-bar chefs will be cooking up something for everyone’s taste buds, ranging from ice cream, pizza, and Texas Hill Country BBQ to Korean and Moroccan, just to name a few. Food tents with tables offer plenty shade, and a very thoughtful outdoor hand-washing station is provided.

Many Texas Hill Country wineries will be offering free tastings and selling your favorite wine by the glass or bottle from noon to 6 p.m. the day of the festival. Participating wineries include Lost Draw Cellars, Becker Vineyards, Chisholm Trail Winery, Texas Hills Vineyard, Hye Meadow Winery, Woodrose Winery, Lewis Wines, Bending Branch, and Messina Hof Hill Country.

Ice cold Texas craft beer, along with others, will be available from the memorabilia-studded Luckenbach Bar throughout the day and into the evening.

Live music will be played from noon until 10 p.m. on the shady back stage. Headlining the event will be The Texas Tornados. Also sharing the stage will be Ruby Dee & the Snakehandlers, Bo Porter Trio, Kevin Deal, Rachel Laven, Troy Cartwright, Rob Baird and Jason Eady.

This is a family-friendly event with proceeds benefiting The Texas Center for Wine and Culinary Arts. Furry friends are welcome to join the event as long as they are on a leash. The “local residents” will be joining in the excitement as well – the hens, the rooster and, of course, sleepy cat. Tickets are only $15, kids 12 and under are free. Plenty of free parking is available. Skip waiting in line, purchase tickets in advance, and enjoy the luxury of the express lane that offers quick entry into the festival. Tickets are available online at www.luckenbachtexas.com.

Luckenbach is a memorable place with a mood unlike any you have experienced before. You can’t find a place more laid-back without being unconscious. Where the twangy, slow-paced anthem song by Waylon & Willie continues to ring true, and, for a while, everyone can trade in their diamond rings and ties for boots and faded jeans and go away because, “Everybody’s somebody in Luckenbach”.
