Hico, Texas: The Perfect Weekend Getaway Located at the Gateway of the Hill Country

Located at the gateway of the Hill Country is probably one of the best-kept secrets for a weekend getaway: Hico, Texas.  Perfect for a day trip or an extended visit to enjoy the beautiful landscape scenery the Hill Country has to offer along with some interesting history, and the perfect small town atmosphere to leave the stress of the city behind.

“Where everybody is somebody” is the town’s motto, and there’s no better place to visit. Feel right at home among its historic downtown district and at the comfortable and welcoming bed and breakfasts. Also known as the home of “Brushy Bill” Roberts, AKA Billy the Kid. You will find a museum in his name that is the main attraction of Hico, Texas, according to its website. Get up close and personal with the colorful past of this city, as well as the legend of “Billy the Kid” with never before seen photos of him with Pat Garrett. They are only available for viewing in the Billy the Kid Museum.

There’s plenty of shopping among Hico’s quaint stores, and hunting, fishing, and equestrian opportunities are at your service to make the experience of this small town gem even more memorable as you take in the breathtaking scenery of the Hill Country.

Built in 1903, Hico is also home to one of the oldest and still functioning city halls in Texas according to its website. Several influential folks call Hico home such as the “celebrated keeper of cowboy lore and a Western Music Association Hall of Fame honoree,” Don Edwards. There are antique fairs, Old Settlers Day events, and plenty more waiting for you to unlock the secret treasures this charming town has to offer.
