August can be a bummer month. It gets hotter than the rest of the year, and kids don’t usually look forward to school starting. The town of Boerne, however, doesn’t think August should be written off. Here are four exciting things happening in this charming Hill Country community! Be sure to keep an eye out on social media for more events to attend.

On August 13, the library will be hosting an online discussion around Olly Neal Jr., an accomplished Southerner who became Arkansas’s first African American district prosecuting attorney. Boerne author Jan Wrede has recently published a new biography about him titled “Outspoken” and will be in this Zoom discussion. Learn more here; the program begins at 10 a.m.
Every second and fourth Saturday, The AgriCultural (formerly the Agricultural Heritage Museum) hosts a Bluegrass Jam and everyone is invited! Come listen to local musicians, young and old, or bring your own instrument and jam along. It’s free to attend and play. The fun starts at 11 a.m. and ends around 1 p.m. Follow the music to 102 City Park Road, next to the city pool and soccer fields.

Sip a delicious beer and get some shopping done downtown. The Guadalupe River Market is a convenient way to support local merchants and have a grand time! Every Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., Tusculum Brewing Company hosts a market featuring baked goods, candles, treats, body products, and more. This free event is located at 236 S. Main Street.
If H-E-B is too busy for you, try out the Farmers Market at the Cibolo! Texas comestibles abound at this Saturday market. Pick up fresh eggs, coffee, salsa, jams, seafood, wine, local produce, and honey, as well as jewelry and art, all at the beautiful, historic Herff Farm at 33 Herff Road. Open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., be entertained by free live music, cooking demos, and gardening classes. There’s even a spot for kids to craft their hearts out! There’s also yoga on the beautiful porch of the Herff Farmhouse during the Farmer’s Market, every Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Keep your body and mind in good health with this outdoor yoga class from DEFINE Boerne.
Enjoy August as it should be enjoyed! Boerne is waiting for you and will not disappoint.
