The Key to the Hills Rod Run is the largest pre-1949 Rod Run and is sure to be a weekend of classic car fun. There will be almost 500 coupes, sedans, and roadsters from all over the country. Main Street Boerne will close on Saturday and cars will be on display on Main Plaza and throughout downtown.

Hosted by the Pride of Texas Street Rod Club and Budnik Wheels, the event not only showcases some beautiful classic cars, but the group also hopes to encourage an interest in street rodding as well as promoting safe driving, automobile maintenance, and overall vehicle operation.

History of the Hot Rod

Hot Rodding’s history stretches back to the late 1930s but really gathered steam after World War II, when there were many small military airports throughout the country that were either abandoned or rarely used, allowing hot rodders across the country to race on marked courses. As some Hot Rodders also raced on the street, a need arose for an organization to promote safety, and to provide venues for safe racing. Hot Rodders including Wally Parks created the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) to bring racing off the streets and onto the tracks. They created rules based on safety and entertainment and allowed Hot Rodders of any caliber the ability to race.

There is a contemporary movement of traditional Hot Rod builders, car clubs, and artists who have returned to the roots of Hot Rodding as a lifestyle. This includes a new breed of traditional Hot Rod builders, artists, and styles, as well as classic style car clubs.

There’s no doubt about it, a day spent in Boerne, admiring lovingly-restored cars is about as good as it gets! Make your plans to attend by visiting the Visit Boerne website, which includes the details about the event as well as links to lodging and dining options.
