In a welcomed turn of events this past week, George Strait, legendary ‘King of Country Music’ and native Texan announced his candidacy for President of the United States. In a rare interview and combined formal press release, the singer/songwriter referred to the 2016 U.S. Presidential race as an opportunity to make a difference. He told the media he’s fed up with the current political climate and wants to really make a difference for the better — to give the U.S. government back to her citizens.

The Announcement

On Wednesday afternoon, the Erv Woolsey Agency tweeted that several high-level executives from George’s marketing and public relations team were en route to Texas from Tennessee in preparation for Strait’s campaign announcement and the inevitable press frenzy that would ensue, and by Thursday afternoon, his candidacy was confirmed on social media (#kinggeorgeforpresident).
The Running Mate

When asked who his selection of running-mate might be, George noted he had plenty to choose from but thought he’d keep his options close to his vest for the time being, which is nothing new for the private and low key artist, adding he wasn’t ruling out any options at this early stage in the game. Asked if he would let TexasHillCountry.com know of his choice in advance of other news or media outlets, he answered, ‘I Cross My Heart’.
His Candidacy

Notoriously quiet about the political race to this point, Strait announced his candidacy for the ‘Check Yes or No’ party, who’s campaign slogan is a catchy, “Keep Calm & Think Strait”. Strait, a graduate of Texas State University, 22-time CMA award winner and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, made no premature campaign promises but left members of the media wanting more when asked if he expected to win. To that, his PR team responded that he had an ‘…ace in the hole’.
A New Hope

Slightly coy and always up for a subtle laugh, when one reporter posed the question, “Is this some sort of joke?” Strait responded that it took him by surprise as much as anyone else, identifying that his interest in politics came ‘…out of the blue clear sky…’
But Then…

In truth, we here in the Texas Hill Country enjoy a good April Fool’s Day joke and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to put our high hopes out there in this (if nothing else) wishful article. ‘We Really Shouldn’t Be Doing This’, but if you honestly thought he would throw his hat in the ring and you could vote for ‘King George’ on your ballot, let’s talk about some ‘oceanfront property in Arizona’.
