Western Trappings on the Llano

Though not technically held during the summer, Western Trappings on the Llano is definitely an event worth mentioning. This year, the event will be held October 13-28, 2017 at the Llano County Historical Museum and features “the finest in custom gear and original western art,” promoting and celebrating Western culture and artists “who have captured the grandeur of the West” within their art. The event opens to the public on October 14, however, if you would like the chance to meet the artists and join in on the preview sale on October 13, you may purchase tickets here. Additionally, there will be a Cowboy Breakfast on October 14 from 8-10 a.m. If you are an artist with western flair and would like to enter into the exhibit, the deadline is July 1, 2017, at midnight.

Red Top Jail Tours

Red Top Jail was constructed in 1895, though officially it was named Llano County Jail, the inmates referred to it as “Red Top.” In 1982, the jail was condemned and a new jail was built to take its place in 2002. The City of Llano purchased Red Top to help with its restoration in 2005. Ten years later, The Friends of Llano Red Top Jail took possession of the site and the restoration was completed. Now, tours of the jail are available to the public during event weekends. Relish in the beautiful granite exterior, quarried locally in the late 1800s, and discover the mysteries that lie within.
