In case you were wondering, the employees at the San Angelo Whataburger located at N. Bryant Blvd and 19th Street will most likely never forget their experience on Monday, April 22, 2019. That’s because Oscar-winning Texas actor Matthew McConaughey was one of their drive-thru customers! While he visited the West Texas city, he did what every Texan does: he made a stop at Whataburger.

San Angelo LIVE! reported that no one knew it was the famous actor until they read the last name on the credit card. Cellphone video of his visit was captured by Brooklyn Deanne Oden, a Whataburger drive-thru staff member, which she posted to her Facebook page. With the caption “Met Matthew McConaughey today in our drive through. He was super cool even tho all of us were freaking out lol. I even got him to say ‘alright alright alright.'” Oden’s page got a lot of reactions from friends and family.

According to Oden, McConaughey agreed to say his catchphrase with the caveat that the Whataburger employees got his order right. “We were all excited because nobody famous really comes to San Angelo like that,” said another Whataburger staff member. “We were just in shock. We kept talking about it when we left work.” The actor is best known for his roles in “Dallas Buyers Club,” and “Dazed and Confused,” among many other amazing roles. He attended the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin), and he remains a staunch fan and supporter. He graduated in the class of 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Radio-Television-Film, and although his original plans of attending law school after graduation have changed, we’re extremely grateful that they did. For those of you dying to know what he ordered at Whataburger, Oden said it was two No. 1’s, plain and dry with cheese.
