Founded by a Confederate General (Adam “Stovepipe” Johnson) who went blind from a rifle ball, it was known as “Blindman’s Town”. The city, named for the waterfalls that are now underwater, is also home to Granite Mountain (a solid dome of pink granite) which was used in the construction of the Texas State Capitol.
