Found smack dab in the middle of the Hill Country on the Colorado River is a quaint little city called Marble Falls. With a hometown feel and a population of a little more than 6,000, this Hill Country gem should be next on your list of cities to visit. It is only 48 miles northwest of downtown Austin in Burnet County and 1/20 the size of Austin.

Founded by a Confederate General (Adam “Stovepipe” Johnson) who went blind from a rifle ball, it was known as “Blindman’s Town”. Though he was blind, he directed his son how to drive through the area in search of land deals.  His family also gave him day by day reports on how the town was taking shape.

In the days before women were allowed to vote, Marble Falls was making a move towards innovation and forward-thinking by voting in the first female mayor. Specifically Birdie Harwood was voted into office by an all-male voting population three years before it was legal for women to vote.

LAKEFEST is one of the largest drag-boat races in the United States and celebrates 25 years in 2016.

SWEET BERRY FARM For fresh strawberry (mid-March to May) and blackberry (May to June) picking with no minimum or maximum required. Also available during different months in the year are: tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and peaches.  In the fall, the farm is transformed into a pumpkin patch with a corn maze and hayrides. The bounce house is open everyday and the barrel train is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Just leave your pets at home, and bring some cash!

FLAT CREEK WINERY is a must for the average oenophile. The Tuscan inspired wine tasting room offers public and group wine tasting. Fine dining can also be found at the Bistro with reservations and also offering brunch.

HIDDEN FALLS ADVENTURE PARK offers ATV, 4×4, UTV, and dirt bike trails with rentals available.  Waivers are required and memberships can be purchased in addition to one-time use passes. RV campsites and bunkhouses are also available.

The Marble Falls economy is based on tourism so there are countless things to do and beautiful places to see. The average summer temperature is 85°F while winter is 55°F. The city, named for the waterfalls that are now underwater, is also home to Granite Mountain (a solid dome of pink granite) which was used in the construction of the Texas State Capitol. So much history and fun wrapped up into one amazing Texas Hill Country town.
