Make Your Potatoes Sweet for Christmas With Granny’s Candied Yams

Sweet potatoes and yams are not the same vegetables but many think they are. Yams appear whiter in color, contain more starch, and contain less water. Sweet potatoes come in various colors also, but the yellow, golden variety are a tradition at the holiday table.

Here’s a surprise. Sweet potatoes are not really potatoes! They originate with the Morning Glory family. When you sit down to enjoy your side dish on Christmas, remember, you’re eating a flower.

Although the name of this recipe says “yams,” it is actually a sweet potato recipe. These little bites taste like candy but serve them as a side dish. Guests will love them.

Granny’s Candied Yams

INGREDIENTS:

1 22 oz can Sugary Sams Yams

1 stick of butter

2 teaspoons cinnamon

3 tablespoons brown sugar

3 cups sugar

INSTRUCTIONS:

Mix all ingredients together in an 8×8 inch pan.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about three hours or until  syrup is very thick.
