Jeremy Banas researched, wrote, and edited for a year to ensure his new book entitled “Pearl: A History of San Antonio’s Iconic Beer” would meet the discerning taste of fans of not only his writing but the historic beer that the city has come to identify and grow with. The local author recently commemorated the launch of the book at the original Pearl brewhouse on January 15 at Hotel Emma.

Sure to become a collector’s item for craft beer lovers, this historical piece highlights the history of The Pearl Brewery from its 1887 incorporation to what we know and love it as today. A freelance writer with a portfolio that includes TheFullPint.com, San Antonio Magazine, the San Antonio Current, and the Brewer’s Association’s craftbeer.com, he also has his own website, RuinationPress.com, which features his latest release together with prior works such as “San Antonio Beer: Alamo City History by the Pint” which was co-authored by Travis Polling.

Having the experience of judging a variety of beer competitions, serving as a founding and committee member of San Antonio Beer Week, and hosting a number of dinners and lectures on the subject, beer is a passion that Banas takes quite seriously. His background boasts a proud brewing tradition as well. His cousins, Carl and Joseph Occhiatio, were the final owners of Tivoli – a historic brewing company in Denver, Colorado. His grandfather also worked at the brewery with the family. Having achieved his Certified Beer Server designation in the Cicerone Certification Program, besides writing about his passion, Banas is also working toward his Cicerone Certification. He lives in San Antonio, Texas, and community members have several opportunities to meet and greet the author at an upcoming book signing event in the city. A full listing of these events is available at the link provided here. “Pearl: A History of San Antonio’s Iconic Beer” is a must-read for those that follow these same passions but it also speaks of a jewel in the city’s crown for not only brewing history but Texas industry development and growth.
