What is considered to be the most Texas things you’ll see this week? According to KSAT, it’s a Reddit posting from Corpus Christi. The Reddit user noted as Ljax22, recently posted a photo of their unique truck decoration, and it’s causing quite the stir for Lone Star State creativity.
A Selena Quintanilla-inspired mural which was painted on a pickup truck tailgate has her depicted as a mermaid and appears to have the truck itself included as part of the specially-painted mural as well. If you had any further doubt that this was Texan in any way, shape, or form, the artist included the words “Corpus Christi, TX” on the tailgate work of art. According to KSAT, one Reddit commenter confirmed that they had seen the truck cruising in San Antonio, but didn’t go on to explain when.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez (often referred to simply as “Selena”) is the most well-known, iconic Tejano singers in modern-day history. Not only a singer, but a songwriter, model, and fashion-designer (among other great talents,) her contributions to the fashion and music industries made her one of the most celebrated late-20th-century Mexican-American entertainers. She was murdered on March 31, 1995, and even in death, her legions of fans continue to grow. Many Texans continue to celebrate her talent, love of music, and true and genuine spirit. Hence, a mural of her painted on a truck tailgate in Corpus Christi truly is a tribute of sorts. The talent of the artist and the love of Selena by the truck’s owner are both very apparent.
