The Sixth Floor Museum In Dallas: If a Room Could Talk

A place with an ominous past. If a room could talk, what do you think the one from which Lee Harvey Oswald took his fated shot at President John F. Kennedy would say? Not one to fall into the annals of obscurity, this location on the southeast corner of the sixth floor of what was once the Texas Schoolbook Depository in Dallas, Texas has been cordoned-off to form an entire museum around it. Visitors can witness the “sniper’s nest” from which Oswald aimed, sectioned off by plexiglass and arranged in the way he apparently arranged it at The Sixth Floor Museum.

A webcam is also available, set up in the line of sight that Oswald would have had from The Sixth Floor, showing the distance and position of the motorcade on Houston Street had he taken the shot at that time as opposed to waiting until it was moving along Elm Street.

Making note that everything is designed for family viewing, The Sixth Floor shows 8mm film clips as one of its exhibits, from the date and time of the shot that took the President’s life. If you’re looking for something a little more than PG, you’ll need to visit the Conspiracy Museum which is also located in Dallas.

There is no photography allowed in The Sixth Floor Museum, and bag and body screening at the entrance maintain that prerequisite, as well as the concept that this location will no longer be the site for such an ill-fated occurrence to be repeated. It’s hard to fathom the memory that a place can hold, however, this location has seen many a visitor that say it’s palpable.
