Wispy grasses and shrubby mesquites dot the rocky hillside where steps lead down into the secluded courtyard and entrance. Polished granite, glossy wood floors, and stainless steel accents reflect the natural light beaming in from the three floor-to-ceiling sliding glass windows opening onto the wraparound deck. The commanding overlooks of Canyon Lake and the surrounding Hill Country are as much of the house’s form as the foundation.

Since its reveal, SKYHOUSE has presented visitors chic luxury with stellar views. Owner and designer, Trace, drew inspiration from Australian architect firm MODE DESIGN in order to take advantage of such a unique location. Situated on one and half acres and chiseled into the steep side of a hill just south of Canyon Lake, this 1,800 square foot sleek vacation rental merges rugged Texas Hill Country with refined and lavish style. The galvanized tin exterior and contemporary angles of the house are soften by the rolling green and brown of the countryside. Inside, lustrous surfaces such as the large glass dining table and high-end stainless steel appliances are rounded out with exposed brick, organic live-edge shelving, and vibrantly upholstered chairs.

It isn’t just the living area and upper deck that takes advantage of the spectacular views. The monochromatic bath gets a splash of color from the broad panning windows over the sinks while the two main level bedrooms gaze out to the south and west. Descending to the lower level, the industrially-styled master suite boasts the most panoramic views of the three bedrooms. Even the oversized master shower looks out onto the northern horizon. As the sun begins to set, the valley slowly begins to twinkle making the private pool and lounging decks perfect for watching sunsets and stargazing.

High above it all, it’s easy to forget that SKYHOUSE is mere minutes from some of the most memorable Texas Hill Country experiences to be had. Canyon Lake, known as the Water Recreation Capital of Texas with 80 miles of shoreline, is only a short drive north. New Braunfels just 16 miles away, is bubbling over with craft breweries, world famous waterparks, culture festivals, and gorgeous rivers perfect for floating. Travel just a mile or two further to discover historic Gruene where live music can be found all day long in the oldest dance hall in Texas.

Before heading out to discover the cultural gems the Hill Country holds, whip up a gourmet breakfast in SKYHOUSE’s airy, state-of-the-art kitchen. End the day by kicking back on one of the many lounging decks with your favorite drink and grill up some authentic Texas BBQ. Or, spend more time by the pool instead of doing dishes by ordering take out.
