You may soon be seeing Astral Tequila’s new “smart” bottles containing its award-winning spirit available in-store in efforts to engage with their consumers as well as deliver customized digital experiences through the use of smartphones. Known for his role as “The Most Interesting Man in The World,” Jonathan Goldsmith can be seen in an original video when consumers tap their smartphones to the new bottles of Astral Tequila in-store at the point of sale. Featuring NFC (near field communications) technology, these interactive bottles will be the first of their kind on the U.S market. Astral is collaborating with Thin Film Electronics ASA in order to effectively market their drink through this method.
Commencing this month, the bottles – which have a custom, NFC-enabled neck collar – will be on retail store shelves throughout Texas, California, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia. Consumers will be able to initiate exclusive content through their smartphones when they tap these new bottles, including the video mentioned above. A preview of this new “smart” material was given in June by Astral when they shared a Goldsmith message directed by David Lipman identifying, “I told you I don’t always drink beer. I prefer tequila – Astral Tequila.”
